We
want to take this opportunity to thank the many friends who have come
forward to give donations, large and small, to help us save this old
school for a purpose that will foster the common good of the community
and surrounding area......This is a beginning!
Grants
Purpose of the Committee:
A. Do research, write and secure funding through grants to help support the activities of the SOS.
B. To support the function of SOS in any way directed by the Board of Directors.
Time commitment....Approximately 3-5 hours per week from June to October.
2006-2007
- Attended all organizational meetings.
- Made contact with names given to me who might be willing to help with grants.
- Conducted internet search of possible grant sources.
- Made contacts with the Preservation League of N. Y. State. The Board of Directors decided not to go the Historical
Preservation routs. - Reported on the Save Our History Project (SOH) funding through the History Channel promoting local history and preservation projects in conjunction with the school. A community member took the initiative and applied for a General Mills Hamburger Grant. The Grant was not approved.
2007-2008
- Attended all organizational meetings.
- Participated in Monday work sessions at the schoolhouse until asked to work on the Application for the Provisional Museum Charted.
- Filled out the application for the charter including developing a draft constitution and by laws that must be submitted with the application.
- Gave a draft of the Application and the Constitution and By Laws to members of the Board of Directors for review and revision.
2008-2009
- Purchased the 2007 edition to the Annual Register of Grant Support to use as a reference in grant research.
- Revise Charter Application including the Constitution and By Laws based on feedback from the Board of Directors.
- Submit the Application and monitor the precess until accepted. This is a top priority. I have been told many funding sources will not take us seriously until we have a provisional charter from the State.
- Continue communication with the Upstate History Alliance. This organization distributes grant money for the New York State Council on the Arts to provide support for museums and historical societies. I recommend we start with a Get Ready Grant that will support SOS developing a Strategic Plan. The Charter and Strategic Plan will be necessary for other grant opportunities.
- Any other tasks directed by the Board of Directors.
